Enevo waste collection for smart cities

Enevo, founded in 2010, has raised over $26m in private equity funding to date and continues to invest highly in R&D and geographic expansion. Enevo is headquartered in Espoo, Finland, with offices in the US, UK, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan.

By collecting and analysing data from refuse containers, Enevo is able to create efficiencies and cut the cost of waste collection and incentivise recycling. Enevo simplifies, de-risks and optimises the waste management process, helping to make a sustainable waste-free environment a more achievable proposition.

We had earlier blogged about SmartBin and Enevo also has a similar solution through which garbage collection is made smarter with optimized routes for garbage collection vans leading to lesser number of vans on the roads and less trash left uncollected.

The Enevo WE-008 ultrasonic sensor is a wireless fill-level monitoring device and a core component of the Enevo solution. It’s used to monitor any type of solid waste or recyclables. A web based portal is available to represent the collected data with analysis reports It also generates routes and schedules that make sure high demand locations get a pickup before becoming overfull, while avoiding unnecessary pickups at locations with empty bins. Enevo claims that cities can experience direct cost savings of up to 50 percent on trash collection.

enevo_we008_sensor_small_v4The sensors also include motion detectors and thermometers, which allow them to detect successful pickups as well as provide alerts about unusual events, like vandalism or trash fires. They are bolted to the inside of each dumpster and are powered by internal lithium-ion batteries that can last up to 10 years. They connect over the 3G cellular network to transmit data.
