Huawei unveils experience zone & testing lab for smart city solutions
Competing leading organizations are launching new and more innovative solutions for smart city applications frequently. There is a confusing list of options available for urban development authorities and consultants to decide. Large-scale smart city projects spanning multiple operational and service areas are in the pipeline globally. However, solutions need to be tested in close to real world scenarios before being confirmed to be ready for deployment. Similar, the authorities need to check out the solutions before certifying them ready to transform their cities into smarter places. This makes experience zones and labs important where different solutions can be tested and demonstrated.
Huawei has opened 650-sq. metre experience zone in Singapore earlier this month which is the latest addition to its series of centers named OpenLab which are currently located at Dubai, Munich, Moscow, Mexico City, and Suzhou. The newly-launched South Pacific OpenLab will be connected to the network of other OpenLabs to facilitate the international exchange of ideas about new business models, market needs, and technical solutions and offer a platform of ICT innovation. Huawei plans to open four more such centers in future.
The lab can be used by partners of Huawei to verify their smart city products and solutions in actual network environment. This will enable Huawei to partner with leading solution providers as well startups and research institutions with innovative solutions. The lab will be also open for visitors to experience solutions for smart cities, IoT, public safety, transportation, banking and education verticals. The reference market for this OpenLab will be Singapore which aims to become a Smart Nation.
The Chinese company also inked a deal with NCS and Tyco to create smart city solutions at the launch event. Huawei also unveiled that their safe city plaform which included a command centre dashboard, was designed to integrate its own technologies and those other vendors as well as legacy systems, so previous generations of communications devices, such as those running on P25 and TETRA standards, could still work alongside newer devices on the network. The platform command-and-control software, video analysis, as well as eLTE communications used in law enforcement and emergency dispatch and response processes. The platform, integrated with partner solutions, is able to track and identify vehicles by their colour and make using real-time video feeds, and allow law enforcement officers to provide pictures or videos from the scene of an incident.
